Holidays and celebrations

Looking back at the holidays of 2008.

Ahh, you start looking forward somewhere around november. The last weeks of December! The holidays! Not so much looking forwards to all the nauseating sweetness and cheerfulness, but the vacation! For ’08, I only had four days I could take off, but boy was the timing of Christmas and New Year’s perfect. With those four days, I could sit on my ass from thursday the 25th of december up untill sunday the 4th of january. Bliss!

So the last week started and after a few hours on monday the 22nd, nothing left to do at work. Crap, these last three days will be a bore. Monday passed and I yawned my way through tuesday. On tuesday evening I could feel the excitement of the upcoming holidays in my head and stomach. The next day I realised the excitement was a sickness in disguise, as I spent my last working day in bed being ill. Oh well, I hadn’t been sick much in ’08, so it was bound to happen. Luckily for me, usually I’m sick no longer than two days. So I was up and about again on the second day of Christmas. Still the whole vacation ahead of me!

The second day of Christmas, I spent the evening with family having a nice dinner and chatting about. After a whole blissful weekend of doing naught, I happily woke up on monday, knowing I was free to do whatever I wanted. Together with a close friend I visited two kitchen dealers (had to start looking for a kitchen for my home-to-be some day), we went out and bought some oliebollen and I went to see the latest 007 in the cinema with my father and brothers that evening. During the film, again, I felt excitement in my head. Hmm, familiar.

To cut things short, I spent most of my time in and out of bed coughing and feeling horrible the next few days. Yes, I was sick, and got hit well. All who were home alone at midnight on New Year’s Eve in stead of celebrating with friends, raise their hand! Only me, huh? Only friday afternoon, things improved. As things continued to improve during the weekend, I felt fit and well again … on monday … when I had to work again … Does this bode well for 2009? I’m not one to believe in bad omens anyway. I did put on an extra sweater today, though…

Happy 2009!
